Nizhny Novgorod has a rich heritage of wooden as well as mixed stone and wooden architecture of the 19th - the early 20th centuries, preserved now as parts of streets and blocks. Architecture scholars consider this to be a unique phenomenon. Wooden historical buildings are the most important element of the national and local architectural identity of Nizhny Novgorod, a striking feature which distinguishes it from any other Russian city.

As a part of the festival «Mesto», Pokras Lampas' project deals with the loss of cultural heritage, and its theme involves fire.

On the wooden scorched panels the artist wrote the amulet text, a fragment of which reads: "Fire, get out". For the presentation of the project we created an audiovisual installation that digitized the flame, reconstructing the fire incident. However, the walls of the house survived it and became a symbol of the local community's concern for the issue.

The house is now preserved. Historic preservation activists are looking for an investor to restore and reconstruct it. Some of the objects in this block have already been restored as part of the Tom Sawyer Fest.
