From May 24 to August 10, the exhibition 404 Museum by internationally acclaimed media art duo 404.zero from St. Petersburg is on view at Cistern x T-Bank, a space established by the company dreamlaser.

The exhibition features three large-scale installations created specifically for the architectural interior of the venue. These works combine mathematical precision, generative graphics, audio design, and laser technology, crafting an immersive environment where the boundaries between sound, light, and space dissolve.

Each of the three installations merges the elegance of mathematics, programming, and sonic design. Lasers, lighting fixtures, and screens are embedded into the space, emphasizing its industrial power and aesthetic. At the heart of each work lies hand-written code and algorithms — a kind of musical score for machines. Here, code is not a tool but a collaborator, living its own life, responding to variables, randomness, and predefined structures.

1.24 / 404 Museum
A two-story LED screen slices through the building, creating a dense vertical projection where generative visuals interact with both the architecture and the viewer.

This piece is the result of several years of research. The artists sought to build a visual system that lives independently — unpredictable, without interference, without control. The visuals never repeat and are never the same twice.

4.004 / 404 Museum
A site-specific installation based on lasers and strobe lights, built into four openings across two floors of the venue.

In an atmosphere of industrial haze, light becomes more than a visual element. Vertical beams cut through the architecture and space with precision and softness, as if reconfiguring the environment. Each column of light breathes with the rhythm of the place — suspended between rigid geometry and emptiness.

4.25 / 404 Museum
A regular structure of narrow light planes paired with a generative soundscape invites contemplation of space and time itself. This installation uses around a thousand fixtures. LED panels, strobes, and sound — guided by machine learning algorithms — pulse and shimmer in sync, somewhere between light and shadow.

About the Artists:
404.zero is a media art duo from St. Petersburg composed of Kristina Karpysheva and Alexander Letcius. They are known for their technologically advanced audiovisual works built on generative graphics, mathematics, and programming.

They call themselves AV architects, with each project not only shaping visual and sound environments but also reimagining the very space it inhabits. 404.zero have toured the world with their immersive audiovisual works — from the digital screens of Shibuya Station in Tokyo to London’s The Beams and New York’s Knockdown Center and Avant Gardner. In 2023, they performed at major international venues and festivals, including MUTEK in Canada, Mexico, and Japan, and Dark Mofo in Australia.

In April 2025, their installation Interoception was featured at the Intervals Festival in Nizhny Novgorod.
