On July 29, 2023, the town of Arzamas witnessed a multimedia show designed and held by dreamlaser to celebrate the completion of extensive restoration works undertaken in the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral. This is one of the largest churches in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. It was erected as a way of thanksgiving to God for Russia's victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 (French invasion of Russia). Last summer the cathedral was restored and re-consecrated.
The concept of the show was inspired by the story of Napoleon's invasion and the creation of the cathedral. Patriotic symbolism in the history of this building meets spiritual symbolism epitomized in Christ's victory over death.
The 1812 Overture by Pyotr Tchaikovsky accompanied the mapping show by dreamlaser. A poetic text was written specifically for the event.
Projection mapping with light elements on the walls of the Resurrection Cathedral was a challenge, because its architecture is quite complex. Preparation works involved full scanning of the cathedral. The show was designed with regard to all the elements of the façade, including domes, columns, crosses, etc.
Eventually, one could enjoy a quality show that was truly solemn and impressive.
