dreamlaser took part in the 2023 Factory Night festival with six installations in three cities: Petergof, Ivanovo, and Chekhov.
Factory Night is a countrywide festival that unites art and industrial facilities all across Russia. Operating and decommissioned production sites turn into exhibitions and open their doors to the public for one night. In the wake of the event, we are delighted to share the works we presented at the festival.
In Ivanovo, the installations were on the premises of the Big Ivanovo Manufactory.
Search, Ivanovo
The rays of light inside the Big Ivanovo Manufactory symbolize a multitude of development vectors for this territory. These rays have also become a metaphor for external forces that are attempting to penetrate and perceive this space.
Voice of Windows, Ivanovo
The installation gives an account of different milestones of the Big Ivanovo Manufactory. To see the installation running, the viewers needed to animate the building with light and sound by selecting one of the scenarios on the control panel.
In Chekhov, the installations were set up at the Energomash plant in two neighboring workshop bays of Plant Block No.1. Our idea was to get a single route looping between the two installations: the former letting the viewers become introspective and analyze their feelings; while the latter helping the audience observe the factory life from the inside.
a.r.r.c., Chekhov
The multimedia installation, familiar to those who attended the TSEKH* exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod, sends you exploring the inner world of a human being. It consists of four zones: ‘aim’, ‘react’, ‘reflect’, ‘chaos’. Each zone enables the viewers to live through one of the stages of their own personal evolution.
Dialog, Chekhov
The installation is a combination of automated motions of laser devices and random movements of the factory beam crane worked by its operator. There were several conceptual levels of this dialog at once: between light and mechanisms, between man and factory.
In Petergof, the dreamlaser installations were hosted on the grounds of the Raketa watch factory, being dedicated to space and time, the topics truly symbolic for this location.
Windows, Petergof
We integrated diode screens into the windows of the factory lobby. The content on the screens was created by Stain studio. It is a generative work that touches on such topics as time and changes in the world around us through technological progress. Observing deliberately accelerated time takes our perception beyond our normal human capabilities.
Portal, Petergof
This installation combines the topics of time and space — two eternal values and human dreams. The installation shows an endless flow of time and energy, a kind of cosmic portal that briefly opens for the viewers. It was located in the cylindrical space of the factory showroom.
